Renting And Leasing

A rig owner can delegate mining without giving up the rig.

Operator assignment

The owner may assign any wallet as the rig's operator. Assignments always take effect at the next epoch, so credits already mined in the current epoch cannot be redirected. A sale or transfer invalidates all operator assignments made by the previous owner.

Leases

Leases run for 3, 7, or 30 epochs and are managed by RigLeaseManager. Accepting a lease installs the renter as the authorized miner starting at the next epoch boundary; no further transaction, NFT movement, or activation fee is needed. While a lease offer or an accepted lease exists, the rig cannot be listed, transferred, upgraded, or exited out from under the renter.

Flat lease. The renter pays the full WETH rent up front and receives 100% of the rig's normal and bonus mining rewards for the lease window. A 5% protocol fee is taken from the rent; the owner receives the rest. Flat offers are openly acceptable by the first taker, since the up-front rent is the acceptor's own stake.

Revenue-share lease. No up-front rent. At claim time each leased epoch's BOTCOIN reward is split between owner and renter at the shares fixed in the offer, after a 5% protocol skim. Because nothing is paid up front, revenue-share offers use an application flow: prospective renters apply, and the owner selects one. The first leased epoch is a performance probation; a renter who fails the rig's qualification threshold in that epoch loses the lease immediately, with authority returning to the owner, while the probation epoch's rewards still split as agreed.

Expiry and claims. After the final epoch, the lease expires through a permissionless call or lazily on the next mining submission. Reward rights are snapshotted per epoch, so a renter can claim earned epochs after the lease ends, after the rig is sold, or after any later lease. Nothing about later ownership can take away rewards already earned.

The owner keeps the rig's activation, its accumulated mass, and any earned swap fee discount throughout a lease. The renter gains mining authority only.
